The crew is getting ready to take the Death Defying Figure Eight Pedal Car Races back to the Bay Area Maker Faire 2013. The rules for participation:

Vehicle must be a pedal powered, single seater
Riding on no less than 4 wheels
Must have good brakes
A Death Wish on a FIGURE-8 track!

The Spruce Deuce was built for the 2012 Kinetic Grand Championship, a 42-mile race from Arcata to Ferndale, CA, with sponsorship from New Belgium Brewing.

The two-person contraption was handcrafted as part wooden boat, propelled by a paddle-wheel, and part peddle car that rides on spring suspension with disc brakes.

Traditionally the velodrome is an arena for track cycling. The Whiskey Drome is a one-of-a-kind structure that measures 30’ wide and is constructed primarily of wood. It’s based on photographs of a similar structure that was built and used as a favorite carnival attraction in the early 1900’s.
